ôubiana/Alain - "Tendon, Nerve and Other Disorders" "The strength of the thumb is much
diminished because of the adductor paralysis, to which is often added paralysis of the flexor
pollicis brevis. The patient compensates for the loss of the adductor by using the adducting
action of the extensor pollicis longus, which brings the thumb column into retroposition and
supination. If this deforming posture is not corrected early, the patient will have
difficulty restoring opposition of the thumb if the nerve recovers or after a late transfer".
