В  Browner's Skeletal trauma 4th Ed. (у тебя она бумажная вроде есть,
а уж в электронном виде точно есть) есть даже подглавка EXTERNAL
FIXATORS AS NONUNION MACHINES

External fixators have been condemned as nonunion machines because so
many fractures seemingly fail to heal in trauma frames (Fig. 11-37).
There are several reasons for this observation: first, fixators are
applied to the most severe fractures, those with a natural propensity
toward nonunion; second, with so-called spanning external fixators,
weight-bearing or functional use is either very difficult or precluded
altogether; and third, patients are transferred (often for insurance
reasons) to surgeons not familiar with the original treatment plan
leaving a patient in a sort of therapeutic limbo [...]
