In summary, the management of type III AC dislocation is still 
controversial, although the majority of current reports support 
nonoperative treatment. When reading the literature, the reader must 
consider that in most comparison studies between operative and 
nonoperative treatment, the type of surgery varies; rarely is there 
consistency between study groups and methods. In most patients with type 
III injuries, excellent functional results can be obtained with 
nonoperative management.
